Tonal Field

Lessons by Brian Hunker

Each lesson plays a piece of music and draws it on the tonal field as it sounds. Every note takes the color of its function, and the ring turns as the music moves through it.

g(x) = cos(x)·cos(6x) + (1/6)·sin(x)·sin(6x) = (7/12)·cos(5x) + (5/12)·cos(7x)

The tonal field ring: a five-petalled curve with the seven functions Do, Re, Mi, Fa, Sol, La and Ti in their colors, and the note names around the outside

Brian’s Tonality Toolbox

Practice builds a set of tools: some used every day, some kept for the rare job. Exercises build and sharpen them; music is what they are for. Pick a tool to see its exercises.

Music

Each lesson opens in the full Tonal Field tool. Press play above the TAB or the staff to hear and watch it. Best on a laptop or desktop, with the sound on.
